Brixton Barn, once a National Trust office has been converted with marble floors, underfloor heating and a luxurious en-suite bathroom to provide outstanding accommodation for two. Set just 0.5 miles from the beach and a 0.25-mile stroll from the welcoming local pub and village stores, The Grove enjoys a wonderful location in the medieval village of Brighstone. Totally unspoiled and threaded with lovely walks and cycle paths, the surrounding countryside is a joy to explore. Newport 7 miles and sailing at Yarmouth 10 miles. Shop and pub 0.25 miles

There are excellent beaches all round the island, with Alum Bay a particular favourite because of its highly unusual multicoloured cliffs. The main coastal resorts are Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Yarmouth and Ryde, all within easy reach of our holiday cottages in the Isle of Wight, and each offers everything you need for a traditional seaside holiday. Make sure you pay a visit to Osborne House, built as a holiday getaway for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, which is still very much as they left it. Carisbrooke Castle also has royal connections – it was used a prison for Charles 1 in the aftermath of the Civil War.
